Kissito Healthcare centers celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care Week with fun activities for residents, families, employees

Roanoke, VA – Kissito Healthcare is excited to participate in the celebration of National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), from Mother’s Day, May 12, to May 18. This year’s theme, “Radiant Memories: A Tribute to the Golden Age of Radio.”

Throughout the week, residents, employees, and volunteers will engage in activities all planned to ignite memories and honor the rich, vibrant era of radio. These events are designed not only to entertain but also to foster a deep connection among participants, celebrating the unique histories and contributions of everyone across Kissito Healthcare.

“This week is always a special time for our residents and employees,” said Kissito Healthcare CEO Robert McClintic. “Our teams go above and beyond every day to give our residents fun and engaging activities. But during this week they go above that to make these memories even more special.”

Each Kissito center plans their own activities and have the resident’s favorite events while incorporating new ones that tie into the theme of “Radiant Memories.”

“We look forward to this week all year long. It’s a week full of engaging activities that go over the top of our usual activities. Residents & employees engage in dress up days and look forward to the food that is planned out for the week,” said Dawn Burk, Community Life Director at the Brian Center of Alleghany.

The Brian Center of Alleghany is centering all their NSNCW activities around the decades and how radio influences those activities. The center will partner with a local radio station and send out songs and words of encouragement to residents and employees. The Brian Center Alleghany is also planning a 50s-decade day with music, cheeseburgers, root beer floats and employee and resident competitions.

“We would love to give away all the details but would rather everyone stop on by and join in on the fun,” Burks said.

At Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab Center, some of the activities include Kissito Cares Coffee Bar for employees and residents, live music with Joe “Elvis” Borreli, Radio Talk/Movie Time, a Sock Hop Dance with popcorn and coke floats, and a classic car show at Mulberry Creek Assisted Living.

“We take pride in serving our community’s most vulnerable population. Nursing Home Week is an opportunity on a national scale to shed light onto our team’s passion for providing excellent care respectfully and with integrity. Our organization looks forward to celebrating the experiences, friendships, and successes enjoyed through providing excellent care,” said Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab Chief Administrative Officer Koby Johnson.

Established by AHCA in 1967, NSNCW starts each year on Mother’s Day and encourages skilled nursing care centers around the country to host a variety of events that shine a light on the individuals who reside, work, and volunteer in nursing centers.
